MakeCampusesSafer

The Story Behind #MakeCampusesSafer
Make Campuses Safer is a movement, a plea, a petition with Change.org started on 29 April 2023, urging educational institutions to implement comprehensive measures to address and prevent sexual assault on campus.
Our founder, Pragya Sikka, A small-town girl from Haryana, stood up after facing a sexual assault on the college campus — armed with just a petition and unshakable conviction. When systems failed her, Pragya stood up. When professors tried to silence her, she spoke louder. And across the country — and even the world — people listened.
Today, #MakeCampusesSafer is no longer just a petition. It is a movement of 8,500+ changemakers, students, survivors, and allies, demanding safety, accountability, and justice in educational spaces.
Our recommendations have been acknowledged and inspired change across other institutions as well. What began as resistance is now a roadmap for reform!
Project Campus Allies
As an extension of this campaign, Project Campus Allies was created to bring the conversation directly to campuses through workshops, training sessions, and art-based interventions.
Our workshops on Preventing and Addressing Sexual Harassment in Campuses, supported by the Azadi Project, equip students with the tools to:
- Identify sexual harassment and understand its various forms
- Learn about PoSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) laws and ICC procedures
- Understand how to file complaints and advocate for redressal
- Build survivor-supportive, queer-affirmative spaces within college environments
Using real-life case studies, storytelling, and participatory discussions, students don’t just learn — they become agents of change.

Why It Matters?
Most students don’t know how to report sexual harassment, or even that an ICC exists on their campus. Many don’t feel safe — especially queer and marginalised students. Through this project, we’re not only spreading awareness but building an ecosystem of peer-led support, legal literacy, and student-powered action.
